NCR’s APTRA ™
Software Helps ATM Deployers
Address Software Regulatory Compliance by
Integrating Solidcore
Technology
Many deployers
not prepared for ATM software threats and
business risks beyond worms and viruses
DAYTON, Ohio –
November 14, 2005 - NCR
Corporation (NYSE: NCR) continues
to lead the industry in providing unprecedented
software security for the automated teller
machine (ATM) channel by introducing a new
generation of security, IT control and regulatory
compliance into its APTRA ™ software
suite. An extension to NCR’s holistic
approach to ATM security, NCR will be the
only ATM manufacturer providing such comprehensive
management of the ATM environment by integrating
APTRA with technology from Solidcore
Systems, Inc., a leading developer of
IT control solutions.
"While the industry
continues to focus on the slim threat of
worms and viruses entering the ATM software
environment, new threats, business risks
and regulatory compliance issues are virtually
ignored,” said Bob Tramontano, vice
president of engineering and product marketing
for NCR’s Financial Solutions Division.
“There are required audit trails for
software changes, other requirements related
to Sarbanes-Oxley and imminent industry
compliance measures that may not yet be
on the radar screen for most ATM channel
managers."
Recent industry research
indicates that in the past year, internal
attacks on IT systems have grown and now
outnumber external attacks. NCR’s
approach to ATM software security addresses
these new trends so customers can be assured
that no unauthorized code can execute on
their ATMs and no unauthorized changes can
be made. It is a cost-effective approach
to protecting the ATM channel from potential
known and unknown risks, external and internal
threats and regulatory compliance. The new
offer will be available for use with APTRA
applications and non-NCR applications.
Robert Sandie, executive
vice president of Solidcore’s Worldwide
Operations, said, "This brings an entirely
new level of security to the banking industry
at a time when the transition to Windows-based
platforms is picking up speed. Using NCR’s
ATM expertise, we have tailored a single
approach for the ATM channel that addresses
these potential technical and business risks."
Added Tramontano, "Until
now, there have been ad-hoc security offers
in the market that only address symptoms
of the security problem. With this technology
and compliance-ready ATMs, our customers
don’t have to worry about these issues
affecting their business or the consumer."
Solidcore technology is
used in various devices, including medical
equipment, PDAs, point-of-sale terminals
and storage servers. It is particularly
popular among retailers who are already
facing many of the same industry regulatory
compliance issues.
