StoreNext to Provide Solidcore Security With Store Systems
Integrated "deploy-and-forget" modules protect grocer software and operations
PLANO, Texas – August 1, 2006 – StoreNext's independent grocers will be among the first store system users to enjoy relief from software viruses and other PCI security compliance concerns. Under an agreement announced today, Solidcore’s S3 Control system has been integrated with the ISS45 point-of-sale system and other StoreNext products, providing software change management and runtime protection. The combined systems will be marketed via StoreNext’s nationwide dealer network.
Unlike typical anti-virus products, Solidcore S3 Control is integrated with software applications and allows only sanctioned programs to execute or modify data. Legitimate file maintenance and software upgrades take place normally, but changes outside the merchant’s policy are prevented, blocking unauthorized code or data from infecting the system software and files.
"Solidcore’s unique 'deploy-and-forget' approach – eliminating daily update feeds – is exactly what our customers want," said Tony van Seventer, StoreNext’s vice president of marketing and products. "Retailers don't want the night staff downloading new Internet games because these merchants rely on a stable set of applications, and S3 Control keeps them that way. Unfortunately, common protection programs also sap performance as they constantly search for thousands of individual viruses, trojans and adware. Users are often amazed when S3 strips away these layers of overhead and they rediscover their original system throughput and responsiveness."
StoreNext plans to provide Solidcore's S3 change control and protection modules with all its software offerings — including ScanMaster and ISS45 POS, U-Scan, Connected Services, WinEPS electronic payments, Retalix Store and HQ, RBO, PocketOffice, Fuel and Pricer Electronic Shelf Labels. StoreNext is also setting up special services to enable third-party applications to be "solidified" and operate with S3 Control.
"StoreNext's comprehensive application scope presents the first opportunity for independent grocers and regional chains to achieve wall-to-wall IT infrastructure coverage under Solidcore’s change control umbrella," said Robert Sandie, EVP of Worldwide Operations for Solidcore. "The fact that StoreNext has stepped up to cover their 10,000-plus customer stores across such a variety of products and end-points is more evidence of StoreNext’s commitment to leadership in the independent market."
"PCI compliance and security practices such as controlling system access, file integrity and data protection have focused the industry on tamper-proofing IT," said van Seventer. "With S3 Control operating in concert with all StoreNext server, workstation and POS terminal operations, grocers don't have to play virus-roulette with daily downloads. Hoping to get antidotes in time — and that they won’t cripple mission-critical software — is not a winning security strategy. Eventually you lose; it’s only a matter of time."
