Egenera Welcomes Four New Members to Alliance Program

IBM DB2, Solidcore, SWsoft and Xcelerix Bring Synergistic Solutions to Egenera BladeFrame Value Proposition

MARLBORO, Mass.—June 28, 2005—Egenera Inc., a leader in utility computing, today announced that IBM DB2, Solidcore Systems, SWsoft and Xcelerix Technologies have joined the Egenera Accelerate alliance program as Assured Solution Alliances members. The Accelerate program helps ensure that customers derive maximum value from an Egenera ® BladeFrame ® deployment by validating applications and platforms for interoperability.

"The Egenera BladeFrame system has achieved breakaway market acceptance by enabling customers to quantifiably lower datacenter costs while dramatically improving system flexibility and agility," noted Mike Thompson, chief operating officer, Egenera. "Our growing ecosystem of alliance members is an indicator of our market success, with partners sharing Egenera’s commitment to creating business value with complementary solutions that enhance BladeFrame deployments. We are pleased to welcome IBM DB2, Solidcore, SWsoft and Xcelerix to the Accelerate program."

IBM DB2
IBM DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition (ESE), which can be deployed on Linux, is designed to meet the relational database server needs of mid- to large-size businesses. DB2 ESE is an ideal foundation for building on-demand enterprise-wide solutions, such as large data warehouses of multiple-terabyte size; high-performing, 24x7, high-volume transaction-processing business solutions; or Web-based solutions. It is the database backend of choice for industry-leading ISVs building enterprise solutions such as business intelligence, content management, e-commerce, ERP, CRM and SCM. Additionally, DB2 ESE offers connectivity, compatibility and integration with other enterprise DB2 and Informix data sources.

Solidcore Systems
Solidcore’s enterprise software delivers both cost-effective and proactive management of IT processes and resources. It empowers organizations to gain categorical control of their IT operations and to realize immediate and tangible value in the areas of enterprise security, regulatory compliance and change management. With Solidcore, Egenera’s customers can lock down the runtime environments of their Linux and Windows systems, eliminating the risks inherent to security vulnerabilities.

"Through extensive testing, Egenera has confirmed the interoperability of Solidcore’s control technology with their systems," said Robert Sandie, executive vice president of corporate development at Solidcore Systems. "This interoperability extends the benefits of both companies’ solutions for large financial and government customers."

SWsoft
SWsoft’s Virtuozzo for Windows has been validated on the Egenera BladeFrame system. Virtuozzo creates multiple isolated Virtual Private Servers (VPSs) on a single physical server to share hardware, licenses and management effort with maximum efficiency. Each VPS performs and executes exactly like a standalone server for its users and applications as it can be rebooted independently. The light overhead and efficient design of Virtuozzo make it the right virtualization choice for production servers with live applications and real-life data. Through a joint alliance, SWsoft and Egenera are participating in co-marketing, sales opportunities and testing.

"Our alliance with Egenera represents a positive step in providing our customers with solutions to simplify the management of their server infrastructure," said Kurt Daniel, director of marketing, SWsoft. "Combining the Egenera BladeFrame system and Virtuozzo can lower total cost of ownership through server virtualization that scales and utilizes each server to its fullest potential."

Xcelerix Technologies
Xcelerix Technologies develops, markets and supports Xcelerix™ IMDB, a patented, breakthrough In-Memory Database and/or database accelerator specifically designed for applications where real-time, data-driven performance is a critical element or represents a competitive advantage. Benchmarked at more than 2.5 million transactions per second, Xcelerix IMDB has proven to be 100 to 1,000 times faster than relational databases. The solution has been tested on the Egenera BladeFrame system with databases of up to 18 million records with no performance degradation for complex queries. Xcelerix IMDB situates high-speed data management in the data stream, providing real-time performance while integrating with traditional relational databases for disk-based operations.

"The combination of Xcelerix IMDB and the Egenera BladeFrame system presents a unique solution for dramatically increasing the speed of high-performance computing applications," said Helen Charov, CEO of Xcelerix Technologies. "We are excited about this alliance and offer our capabilities to Egenera customers looking for reliable, consistent database performance at unrivaled benchmark speeds"
