Solidcore Inks Distribution Agreement with Tokyo Electron Device to Become de Facto Standard for Device Change Control
Device Manufacturers Rely on Solidcore to Increase Security and Reduce Support Costs for Devices in the Field
CUPERTINO, Calif., Mar. 10, 2008 — Solidcore® Systems, Inc., a leading provider of real-time change control software, today announced a strategic distribution agreement with Tokyo Electron Device Ltd., a leading technology and Windows platform distributor in Japan. Tokyo Electron Device has standardized on distributing Solidcore's S3 Control Embedded™ software to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Japan, rounding out Solidcore's distribution channel that consists of prominent global Windows and embedded software distributors. This further affirms that Solidcore is the de facto standard for change control on embedded devices.
Solidcore's S3 Control Embedded software is a small footprint, low-overhead change control solution that enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to secure and control their embedded devices, including those running the Windows operating systems. The software installs quickly and easily on devices such as ATMs, point-of-sale systems, thin client computers, and multifunction printers to enforce the device manufacturer's software change policy. The software provides proactive protection against unauthorized changes and helps minimize the ongoing maintenance of devices in the field, thus reducing OEM support costs. Solidcore S3 Control Embedded also provides zero-day security protection by ensuring only authorized software can run on an embedded device – eliminating the need to run "performance-draining" anti-virus software applications.
"Solidcore is enabling our OEM customers to build and ship the most highly-interactive and secure embedded devices such as factory automation, office automation, retail and banking systems," said Toshiaki Sunagawa, president and representative director for Tokyo Electron Device Ltd. "Our OEM customers need to ensure their devices either do not change, or only change according to the manufacturer specifications. Solidcore plays an instrumental role by helping OEMs seamlessly secure and manage the 'gold' image of their devices as they are shipped through a distribution channel to industrial firms, retail distribution industries, and financial facilities."
Solidcore's S3 Control Embedded software provides benefits to both OEMs and their customers. OEMs benefit from the ability to reduce support costs associated with unauthorized changes to the operating system and applications on the embedded device. The retail customer or end-user benefits from higher security and availability of in-store systems while leveraging the S3 Control Embedded software to achieve and maintain compliance with regulatory initiatives such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
"Solidcore has proven itself as an established leader in the embedded device market by helping the world's most recognized device manufacturers secure and control their devices," said Tsunesaburo "Sunny" Sugaya, general partner for JAFCO Ventures, a leading venture capital firm in Japan. "This new agreement with Tokyo Electron Device helps fortify Solidcore's place as a necessary, core component of any embedded device."
"Tokyo Electron Device's selection of Solidcore is not only a milestone for our company, but a landmark for how embedded devices of the future will look and operate," said Rosen Sharma, president and CEO of Solidcore. "Solidcore is now represented by each of the major Japanese Windows distributors and one of the leading North American Windows platform distributors. We look forward to working closely with Tokyo Electron Device and our other strategic partners to eventually provide all device manufacturers with a foundation for improving device availability and security."
