Change accountability or change reconciliation is critical to strong IT service management and is a commonly a mandatory control for SOX compliance under frameworks such as COBIT and ITIL. The key to achieving change accountability is to close the loop between change approvals and change implementation. While ticketing systems provide documentation of approvals, verifying that all the changes approved have been implemented correctly and that no other changes have been made can be a difficult and time-consuming task.
Solidcore S3 Control closes the loop on change by creating a comprehensive inventory of actual changes carried out on systems, grouping and matching them with change tickets and approvals, flagging ad-hoc changes made without approvals, and documenting emergency changes with improper documentation.
Closed-loop change management can also help IT management hold outsourcers accountable for implementation of approved changes by verifying that the changes were actually completed. Solidcore can help ensure that no potentially risky “piggyback” changes were made on top of approved changes by providing a work log of all changes made.
For further control, S3 Control integration can be configured such that changes on machines will be permitted only in the presence of approved change tickets. S3 Control offers integration with popular Change Management Systems including BMC Remedy and HP ServiceManager. Other Change Management Systems and homegrown solutions can also be supported via professional services.
Apart from Change Ticketing Systems, S3 Control can also integrate with Configuration Management Databases (CMDB) to provide real-time, detailed change info to other applications such as Incident Management, which rely on the CMDB.
Solidcore has a very strong integration with the HP Change and Configuration Management Product Suite - HP Service Manager, HP Release Control, HP Universal CMDB, HP Server Automation Software, and HP Network Automation Software. Please visit the HP integration page for more information.
