Retail Point-of-Service
Ensure POS device availability and reduce support costs
The Retail industry is getting revolutionized and is moving towards more interactive and rewarding customer experience. More and more retail device manufacturers are adopting advances in hardware and software technologies based on standards such as UPOS, to have flexibility to introduce newer retailing ideas and reduce cost of ownership costs. This makes these self service retail systems vulnerable to security threats and unauthorized changes.

"PCI compliance and security practices such as controlling system access, file integrity and data protection have focused the industry on tamper-proofing IT. With Solidcore S3 Control operating in concert with all StoreNext server, workstation and POS terminal operations, grocers don't have to play virus-roulette with daily downloads. Hoping to get antidotes in time — and that they won’t cripple mission-critical software — is not a winning security strategy. Eventually you lose; it's only a matter of time."

Patch Embedded systems on Your Schedule
Retail systems include point of sale and point of service devices like: POS checkout, self check out, cash drawers, kiosks, etc. They have a large, distributed computing infrastructure with many locations not having onsite IT support staff. In this scenario, it is often difficult to control what software is installed or running on these point of service systems. This lack of control has serious implications on availability and the ability of the organization to meet compliance mandates including those set forth by the PCI (Payment Card Industry) and Sarbanes-Oxley. Added to this is the constant pressure to lower operational costs of IT, improve service availability, and secure systems from zero day malicious attacks.

"Embedding Solidcore into our POS systems gives us complete control and certainty over what changes on each device. The added control enables us to drastically reduce our support costs by preventing all out-of-policy changes and eliminating emergency patching procedures."

Solidcore’s S3 Control - Embedded for POS devices
Solidcore’s S3 Control helps address the challenges of software change control, compliance and security for the retail devices. It provides control over the state of the deployed POS devices and back-office servers by controlling what’s installed and running on them. It reduces in-field breakage with this control as the retail device passes through multiple dealers in its multi-stage manufacturing process and enforces that only the software authorized by device manufacturer gets installed. Additionally, It integrates with manufacturer/channel or retailer’s manufacturing, provisioning, monitoring, change management and in-field maintenance processes while keeping total costs of ownership low. |
